WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2024

Date: 25th October

Harbour Housing attended the World Mental Health Event at the Royal Cornwall Showground in October 2024. Services around Cornwall gathered together to share inspiring stories and participate in activities, which can help boost mood. Some of these included Yoga, Photography, Art therapy, Gardening and Drum Therapy.

The theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health, was Workplace Mental Health, highlighting the importance of addressing Mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

The event opened with emotive songs, layered in harmony, written and performed by Cornish-based singers Jenny Bishop and the duo, Our Atlantic Roots.

There were incredibly moving stories from people who have experienced life-changing outcomes after accessing courses through the Recovery College in Pentreath.

“IF YOU FACE THE FEAR, THEN YOU CAN LIVE AGAIN”

We participated in Wreath making hosted by The Eden Project and listened attentively to the inspiring life stories of Olympic medal winners, runner; Paul Maskell and surfers Lottie Banfield and Peg Bennett.

“The water gives me a big hug” – Lottie Banfield.

Throughout the event, we spoke with a host of services, to discuss available workshops and support that would benefit our clients.

Mental Health affects how we think, feel and act. It includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. One in four people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England, with one in six experiencing Anxiety and depression in any given week.
