Today, we welcomed Sam Galsworthy, The High Sheriff of Cornwall, to our St Austell office. We discussed how our services support victims alongside Devon and Cornwall Police and other organisations during Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Week (3-9 February 2025).
Our work focuses on preventing sexual violence, not only within our women’s services (EVA Project) but all of the projects within the organisation.
By working with the Police and Safer Partnerships, we continue to share information on the communications portal to collectively identify where offences are occurring and support safeguarding teams in crime prevention.
As we prepare to participate in Sexual Violence Awareness Week, Harbour Housing Group Director Malcolm Putko stated.
‘Talking and recognising about the effects on survivors and victims of Sexual abuse is the first step towards ending sexual violence. Working with other agencies, we aim to educate, support and empower survivors to speak up while advocating for specialist accommodation in Cornwall where everyone feels safe and respected.’
This statement highlights the responsibility of our charity to address sexual violence and provide support to those impacted by it.
Sam Galsworthy, the High Sheriff of Cornwall, stated
‘I am not alone in believing how I wish there was not a need for Harbour Housing, but what I have recognised in this meeting is how lucky and fortunate Cornwall is to have such a committed, dedicated and passionate charity.
Harbour Housing are there to catch those in desperate need of support within their warm grasp.
I for one, will be paying far more close attention in providing all the support that I can for Harbour Housing going forward.’
