What better way than to let the new year in, by blowing away the cobwebs of the old and embracing the new, within the Blue Therapy of nature
Today, we enjoyed getting outdoors with some of our residents for a New Year walk along one of the local beaches.
The term Blue Therapy is known as frequently spending time in areas where there is water, which has many positive effects on mood and well-being.
Dr Lewis Elliott, an Environmental psychologist at the University of Exeter, reported “We find people who visit the coast, for example, at least twice weekly tend to experience better general and mental health.”
Staff and Residents joined together to visit Par Beach and experienced a lovely moment in time of connecting through nature and the elements of the coast. For some, it was walking along the shore, collecting shells or the highlight was meeting all of the incredibly friendly dogs.
For others, it was a time to sit in contemplation, watching the waves, whilst reflecting on the ebbs of life, that their journey has taken them.
‘The way that I was, and the way that I want to be’
As we let the new year in, we ask you to consider that when some lives are hiding in the cold shadows, remember that kindness is not a weakness, because sometimes, all it takes is a kind word, a smile, to bring a little hope into someone’s world.
Happy New Year to you all from Harbour Housing!
