Hugh’s original career was as a cartographer before, after obtaining his Registered Manager Qualification in Health and Social Care, he owned and managed a registered care home for the elderly for over 20 years.
During that period, social care went through a significant reorganisation, including changes to the provision of funding, the introduction of national care standards, and the introduction of domiciliary care. As well as managing his registered care home, Hugh was also a director of the British Federation of Care Home Proprietors and, following their amalgamation, a director of English Care.
Hugh has always felt very strongly about homelessness and believes that everybody should be given the opportunity to take back control of their lives and achieve a better quality of life. For that reason, in 2010 he joined Harbour Housing as a volunteer with a focus on computerising and restructuring their accounts.
His role developed until in 2012 he became a Trustee and Director, and he is currently the portfolio holder for Finance and Business Compliance and Vice Chair.
